Agreed, but any normal tint, added to factory tint, renders the percentage higher than allowable levels... so no tint.

True, I don't have a tint meter, but some guys do. I don't get wrapped around the axle about tinit on a big truck. Now on a regular passenger vehicle, I do. Like Shogun stated, walk up to the car load at 0200 hours that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and you can't see in the car to see what the passengers are doing. I've been shot at, and that's not a pleasant experience.

I've never had any issues with a trucker who has tint. Have I written it up? Yes. Have I not written it up on some? Yes. There's some driver's that have been so much of an arse, I decided to write it up. I understand that the rig is your home as well. Some of the day cab local driver's or dump buckets in my opinion that I see every day do not need the tint, they do it for one reason, well two. So they don't have to wear the seatbelt and can talk on the cell phone.

But like many of you had said, attitude will take you a long way.

Agreed 100% - my tint was just to keep the truck cool for me, the wife and the dog. We ran mostly southern routes for a while, middle of the summer. That said, illegal is illegal.

I've seen guys here in TX who run 5% tint.. makes no sense - ever tried to back a vehicle (without hitting things) with limo tint - pretty much sucks.

When people ask questions on the forum, given my background, I try to stock to the black and white of it...I know there are grey areas in many things, I'll leave that to the police officers to address - I just stick to the main lines to avoid needless arguments.

I can honestly say--depending on where you are running--dark tint can make a very big difference--in how hard your a/c etc has to work to keep your vehicle cool--also depending on sleep patterns--makes a heck of a difference--trying to sleep in the daytime is some area's of the country--
having said this--I ran very dark tint for years on my truck-basically since it became popular back in the late 70's or so)-as is the norm in the south(#### near every vehicle in Fl has black out windows
For years it was never mentioned on any of my trucks any where--and the funny thing to me is how so many people talk about(or complain)about California enforcement and so many Cal base plated trucks run DARK tint--I think it is just a given in many of the very hot states--that it can be useful--so they let it go--
Like I said I did it for many years--I do not anymore(although I MISS it)--a couple of years ago I was stopped on I-81 in N Pa(one of the 2 bad/rude DOTs I have had in 35+years--so I have no probelm w/DOT inspections etc)the officer--ran me down and did a DOT inspection on an off ramp--w/very steep grade--and shoulder wasn't wide enough to get all the way off the road--He informed me that IHHO--only drug runners have tinted windows--so between the windows and Fla base plates--he proceeded to try and make my life miserable for the next 2.5 hours--finally giving up and just citing me for the windows--and yes he had 2 fancy boxes--one for each side of the window--to measure the tint--and I was way too dark--Interesting thing though--after checking with PA--the ticket I was written was considered a fix-it ticket there--and since in the officers report--HE HAD removed the tint to insure my compliance--the state of PA considered the matter close--no fine no report--etc---My point in all this--is--this was before CSA2010--so no worries--today I am sure this would be some type of csa pt violation--and as a one truck operator--I can't justify anything on my csa record--
As for diesel bears comment about cars with tint--I hear ya--and with family and friends who are in Law Enforcement--I have joked(not really)about the job they have to do--and as I have said many times B4--you do NOT want me in a Patrol car--because EVERY stop after dark(especially on a rural highway)would be a FELONY stop--just guess I dont have what it takes to do that job--so stay safe out there!

We get it. You are above the laws you enforce because you have stuff. Not impressed. My dad was a cop for almost 40 years and my step-mom retired as Chief of our town here. Neither of them had tinted windows in any patrol vehicle I can recall. Now, Dad, being a drug cop, would sometimes be in a dark tinted vehicle for obvious reasons when they were going on a bust, but other than that, no.

I guess your AR-15 and 12 ga are more sensitive to the heat than the M4s and other weapons our troops are using in that there desert.

393 specifically goes into detail on COMMERCIAL VEHICLES. Your personal car, pickup, or a city, county or state vehicle are NOT commercial vehicles.

Heck, some delivery vehicles, specifically cargo vans, the delivery version of the Chevy HHR and PT Cruiser have NO side windows...

Please slow down with the juvenile argument.. it doesn't apply, and looks childish... kinda like a 13 year old complaining that they can't stay up until midnight, but their parents car - it's just not fair!

    Joetro,

Wow your reading comprehension is incredible. Really pegged the crux of what I was saying. Could it possibly be that I don't want people seeing inside my vehicle easily to see a loaded weapon? No, I tint my windows because I am so worried about the heat affecting my guns. Every time I go out to the range, before I qualify I pack my pistol, shotgun and rifles in ice just so they don't get too hot.

Good grief, what is it with some people? Guess how many window tint violations I have ever written a CMV? NONE. Here's another fun fact for you Joetro, since you have me pegged so well, Mississippi Law allows for as dark as tint as I want on this patrol car. Do I have limo tint on my car? Nope. You can see inside this car just fine during the day.

Yes, I am above the law, though. Think I will go speed now, just because I can. Honestly for the life of me, I was just stating factual information based on real life experiences, both driving a truck and being in law enforcement, not living vicariously through someone else.

My reading comprehension is just fine, thank you. What if I don't want people seeing what's in my car? Maybe I have weapons in my car I want hidden? What about my protection from the sun while in the truck?

You pack your guns in ice? Why? I have never heard of that one before and trust me when I tell you I'm not new to the world of firearms.

The point is this: Law Enforcement can have windows tinted as dark as they want while the people they serve aren't allowed the same privilege.

Another question, since I am confused; Were you a driver or a cop first?
