I think there is no "good" starter company. You start and see if this job and lifestyle is for you. Stuff that may bother one person may not matter to another. You may be miserable at a company everyone says is the best, and happy at a "bottom feeder". There is a guy who posts You-tube videos about how great Swift is. And even inside the company, experiences vary. For example, May has many great trainers, but I got one of the worst. Know what you are getting into as much as possible, keep your expectations reasonable, and move on when you find something better. And know, at the end of the day, most people quit because they cannot stand the lifestyle of an OTR trucker not because of the company, but try to rationalize that by running down a company.
Personally, May has been okay for me. The stuff that bothers me would or could happen at any other company. They haven't been unfair to me, but they haven't treated me particularly great either. I will be looking for something else after my year ends, but I am not desperate to leave. -

I stopped at home yesterday in the afternoon and spent the night at home. Delivered in Springfield this morning then deadheaded back home for a pre-loaded load going to Rancho Cucamonga Monday afternoon, I'll leave Sunday morning.
Was hoping to be home for Superbowl, however, it looks like I get to watch it on the road. It's okay with me, I have a nice HD t.v. on my truck. The weather is beautiful, it's winter and the miles have been great for me this winter, so, I dare not complain, especially since I did 12k miles in January and was home 13 nights!Last edited: Feb 1, 2013
