I have been a pastor for 26 years. Have my Master's of Divinity. Have started and/or served churches in WA, OR, IL, and now MN. Originally was going to be a teacher/coach. I am planning on pastoring part-time once I start driving. We'll see how long that lasts. Eventually will probably do just one or the other.

What job/professional/vocation did you leave to start driving?
I was a Mental Health Counselor for 20+ years, specializing in Substance Abuse. My last job was for the state of Michigan as a Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator, working for one of our counties. My pay was $34k/year plus medical ($4k/year). I should be able to make that my first year of trucking, and hopefully will go up from there.

How long have you been driving?
I am in Week 3 of my CDL training at Roehl Transport. I finish this week, and will spend 4 weeks with a driver/trainer. I should be on my own as a company driver by Oct. 1st.

    Are you OTR or local?
I signed up for the Great Lakes Regional in flat beds. Will be driving WI/IL/IN/OH/MI/PA/NY/NH/VT/ME.

Do you have a family at home?
Yes, my wife of 25 years and my youngest son (a Senior in HS this year). My two older sons (21 & 23) are on their own already.

If you have kids at home, what are their ages?
    son - 18 y/o

If married (or have a significant other) does he or she work?
My wife is currently unemployed, but is interviewing for a job with a local college. Hopefully, she will only work during the school year, and have the summer to travel with me in the truck. She has NO interest in being a driver, but would love to see the country through the windshield.

What job/professional/vocation did you leave to start driving?
After 15 years in law enforcement/private security, I decided to chase the teenage dream of driving a truck. I got my college degree, worked as a cop for a year, a private eye doing insurance invesitigations for 6 years with a 1 year leave of absence to work securtiy for the Dept of State in Somalia, then burned out on PI work and went into private security for 4 years as a retail security specialist and a security consultant. I was living at the local firehouse as a full-time volunteer firefighter as well.

How long have you been driving?
this fall makes it 12 years.

    Are you OTR or local?
I had been OTR until this summer. I have no immediate family, have lived in my truck all these years and finally bought a home last summer so I am now hoping to shift to regional or local work so I can resume having a life, LOL!

What job did you leave to start trucking?

I was sick and unemployed for several years, My first wife left me when we quit farming. I did about a year of college and then went around with everyone about driving, it was something I had talked about for years and thought about longer. I had a dairy farm business for about 25 years before that and did dairy work, with short stints in factories and working for the ASCS when I was young, I was around livestock and crops from about age 6.

How long have you been driving?

I've had my CDL since January of 2004. I drove for my first boss part time until his death, for about 3 months and worked spring rush at a local farm coop during that same period. It took me 6 weeks to find another job, I should have looked elsewhere, then 3 more weeks to find my first longterm job OTR, which I held for 15 months. I then did local work hauling municipal treatment plant products for application, mostly lime from water treatment plants, that work was too infrequent and too unpredictable, I hauled some grain and then got a job doing some local and some OTR about 14 months ago. I've driven almost 300,000 miles since I started.

    Are You Local or OTR?

Have done both and am doing both now, I prefer OTR. Farmed so long I really like to travel.

Do you have family at home?

I'm married to a different woman now, she tried driving, too, but got chased out very quickly, she will tell you now to pay for your own school, but she wouldn't listen to me when I told her that. I have two grown sons of my own and 3 grandchildren, I have 3 stepchildren now and 2 step grandkids. The oldest stepchild is coming here to live, he keeps leaving or getting booted out so now it's up to mom to try and take care of him.
I'm really thinking of going strictly OTR and taking her with me.

Does your spouse or S.O. work?

Yes she works as a CMA(CNA) at a nursing home, she started taking care of Alzheimer's patients a few months ago, the work is much less physical. The money isn't that good, I make as much during a good week as she does for 2 weeks and my job isn't that good.
