I reside in Illinois, but make a significantly higher income than I would if were to reside in Mississippi so hopefully it all works out in the end.

I'm
Seeing something! Some kind of pattern, like these two maps are related!
I've got it! The states with the lowest wages value their dollars more because most people work the floor of a Walmart, trying to figure out which way to push a broom is forwards.

So one needs to find a way to work for people in NY and take their money and live on the cheap in MS?

I think you ought to overly a political map on that also. I think you will see the heavy democratic states are on the low end also..
So what would be the most likely factor. -
The Wal Mart workers are in Carpetbagger land.
Wal Mart pays 9.00 a hour starting and supposedly going to 10.00.
Seems I've spent the last 9 years carrying skilled labor made items up to carpetbagger land, with nothing
to bring back except stuff dropped off by airplanes made at points unknown.
You seem to forget they have taxed and unionized stuff out of business or forced moves to more friendly areas.
Also the areas with highest are small pockets and not statewide. Then looking at your wage map states with highest wages are places where people are leaving en mass. By your thought process I hope you stay there in carpetbagger land and we can send some more brain dead people there to keep you company.GiantBeard Thanks this. -
Touché.
I can't say I'm much a fan of the people out here. I think the only thing I like here is the weather and the farms.
Thanks to the tech revolution, all my friends have been getting priced out. Rent is up, food costs more, fuel is ridiculous, laws make no sense. Everyone is moving East or North, and North won't be much better for long.
The only reason I don't feel it much is because I have dirt cheap rent, on a less than legal property, in a nice area of the countryside, and I work for a farm.
What I pay wouldn't even get me a studio in the ghettos that are popping up everywhere in California. That's where everyone without a college degree seems to be moving though.
