Whats your favorite 5th wheel and why?

I dont know what brand is mine, but what i heard from more experience truckers is that more grease you have on a fifth wheel in the winter, less risk for a jacknife

 

some trucker say - less grease - less risk of jacknifing. Ok, new fifthwheels are all with teflon film, no reason to use grease. New EU regulations recomend to use no grease parts on trucks, so it happens in US too

 

Holland 3500 has been berry berry good to me.

For years I thought the popular model Jost was a copy of the 3500....now I've recently found out that Jost is in fact Hecho en Estados Unidos and it's Holland that's made in China.

When this one wears out I'm going with Jost. On principal alone.

 

Anyone ever heard of a Simplex? I just bought a wore out Freightshaker and this is what is on it. I haven't hooked it up to a trailer yet but I checked the pivot pins with a pry bar and they are wore out, has about a 1/2 inch of movement on both sides. It has a air slide and a air release for the jaws. Anyone know if the pivot has bushings that can be replaced and how big of a job is it to replace the jaws if they are shot too. I've rebuilt a Fontaine once and the parts were reasonable and pretty easy to work on. I can't tolerate a fifth wheel with slack in it with my bad luck because I will probably loose a trailer.

I have a 2007 peterbilt 379. Don't know what 5th wheel it is, but it's easy to hook and releases nice.

 

Nothing beats joost or fontaine easy to use nechanic friendly by far the best

 

Holland! Had a Fontaine on a previous company truck and had nothing but headaches with it. The Holland on my truck now is so easy to deal with. Easy to unlatch in any situation by hand only whereas the the Fontaine always needed some persuasion to unlatch it. Always had to have things perfect to open it up. Bound up with the kingpin too much if the ground was less than perfect.
