Anybody have a pic of a truck with short 30's on it??
-
If I ever get around to it I want to put the west coast style on mine.

The only thing I don't like about straights up the side of a Kenworth is they stick out to far from the cab. I have seen a few that have them in close but haven't talked to the driver to see what kit they went with.

I actually like the whole setup of stock stacks on a W900, the elbows at the bottom are cool, better than any other setup on hoods. The way the tips angle out at the top, instead of curving like a Pete, is cool. If I had a W900 and upgraded the stacks I'd go with 6" and get the correct elbows that look just exatly like the stock 5" ones. leaving the stock elbows in there with 6" stacks would looked half @ssed.. I also don't care for the 45* or 90* picket style elbows on a KW. 90* pickets look cool on a Pete but not a W900.. Anwyays the tips of those 6" stacks on a W900 need to have the exact same turnout and angle as the stock 5" ones. That to my way of thinking THAT is/would be a sweet looking clean exhaust upgrade on a W9...

That is one sweet ride and those stacks look great. Those are the stacks that would be just right on a W900 as long as it had the right elbows..Rig Wrench Thanks this. -
I agree 100% 6" is what I want to put on, but with the way they mount at the top on a W900 they stick out past my liking. The stock style elbows are clamped to a bracket that is bolted to the frame. The only way I can see to get them closer to the cab is to run them like a pete with pete style elbows. The difference between the two is a pete's pipes move with the cab (up&down) but a kw has a clamp and bushing on the top stack that floats, so the cab can move up&down and the pipes stay still. This why in six years of owning this truck I have left it stock. Everything from the downpipe to the elbows has been heavily modifed.

I know what you're talking about I have seen them stick out and it does look kind of bad. I have also seen some that didn't stick out like that but not sure what sort of elbows they had, if they were Pete style, or some special brand of stock looking KY style 6" that didn't have the top of the stacks sticking out like that. That KW design you're talking about where the stack stays stationary while the cab can move freely - my stacks are attached to the back of the cab and on the frame rails the elbows which are stationary... while the cab is able to move freely where the stack is attached to it - the stack doesn't move at all... ...that is a very poor design imo.. The bushings in that set up have been shot ever since I've owned the truck and I really need to fix that. I've seen a few T600's where they don't attach to the back of the cab at all mine unfortunately has the crappy setup..
