agreed... get downsized to basics. another idea, many people over here in miami, will rent out a spare bedroom or convert a room into an efficiency apt. very common here.

I ran the fuel cost per mile today, a truck that has 8mpg fuel economy and current fuel cost of 4.03 per gallon it will cost .58 cents per mile just in fuel.

Ok come back to the real world and show me a truck that gets 8mpg I have never had a truck that got that had a 2000 Volvo with a 500hp Detroit 13speed it did 7.2mpg that was a good truck
My trucks get 5.8-6.1 and don't matter if you drive 60 or 68 they get the same and have prof so I'm more like $.70 a mile just in fuel

I never stated anyone receives 8mpg hand, I used that number as the example only. When we ran fuel cost it started out at the lowest MPG figure that the truck logged, factoring city MPH and hard pulls, max weight and all the other nasty little things that can hit fuel consumption.

The minimum for your truck would be cost out at say 5MPG, then if you have a better average MPG the gremlins will not eat you up.

Pray for the best, prepare for the worst.

Ya I did $2,650 back to Houston didn't want too but better than being at a truck stop a week prices just suck and suck bad you can ask for more money all you want brokers don't give a #### had one last week was telling me what I was going to make after fuel they think trucks tires brakes and all the other stuff just last forever
Even have had one tell me before that on his load I would make $60 a hour after fuel it's stupid they we have to wait on the money 30days or longer when 60% or in most cases more to do the run

I'm leased to Landstar and run a flatbed. I am loving it over here, and think I found my home till I retire. I've been leased to 5 different carriers in the last 8 years and I have to say that this is the best I've found.

As for drivers, I have no clue, nor do I want to even try to think of hiring somebody. Way too many hassles and finding a driver who will respect the equipment an not abuse it has to be hard to come by. And of course everyone wants to go home everyday, who really WANTS to live in a truck for weeks at a time??

I do know that Landstar has more loads than what you can see as an outside carrier. I was able to locate several within 50 miles of where u are paying over $2.50 a mile going to the southern corridor and not needing tarps/legal size loads.

Why not look into becoming a fleet operator leased directly to LS?? You can also just rent a flatbed from them and then you won't have to worry about making repairs on a trailer or tires. You can even just sit at home and dispatch your drivers. Plenty of loads coming in and out of Texas. U could probably get them home at least for the weekends.

I like doing loads for Landstar but I look on there board all the time with not much luck some times I see loads on get loaded LS has posted but not on there board I use there fuel card
I have talk to them before when I was told I couldn't pull loads from other load boards I just see what loads they have posted and that alone is not enuff to keep me loaded every day from what I been told LS prices are what the net is not to the truck I don't get real good money out of LS most loads pay around $2.00 a mile and never get anymore money out of them
The yard I park my trucks at there is a guy that runs for LS he tells me all the time it's the best move he ever made he runs the south coast around 4-700 miles and home almost every weekend I just worry about being somewhere a not a load I can find
