Not saying they are the best thing ever....
I understand, but you have to remember that here at LS, only 1/3 of the loads get posted to the boards, and the ones that do are usually booked in the 1st 20 minutes. What you see on the outside boards are what the agents did not get covered or they put them out there too knowing that a BCO is most likely not going to take them. Just last Friday there over 16,000 available loads on the Landstar board. And we as lease operators can see more loads than you as an outside carrier can.
Also you don't have to pay the high insurance rates, or use a factoring company to get paid. Plus u get their fuel card and discounts (seems u already use that tho)
There are many perks to working here, but I also have never ran under my own authority so I have no idea how it is on the other side of the fence. Just giving u my view point from here.
When do you call it quits?

I see where you are coming from texas loads suck not sure why but they do i have a few brokers that call me when a customer in town has a load that needs coverd just today i had that call beaumont to baton rouge,la 200 miles we get $700 for this load all the time and $800 back to houston today broker said $400 i even made them look it up what we have been getting paid said he could go up to $450 but that would be it NO THANKS!!! even loads coming back or paying $600 on tarp loads my drivers get $100 on every tarp load so that means its ony going to pay $500 cant do that
IF IT DONT MAKE DOLLERS THEN IT DONT MAKE SENSE!!!
we have two trucks parked now drivers cant make $$$ off of the percentage we pay drivers are only making $600 up to $850 a week and refuse to haul what brokers are offering they some find there own loads
About all you can do if your just slow on getting paid is set up with a factoring co and let them do all your invoicing it would move money into your hands faster some pay within 24hours -
Not sure if I am reading this post correct but you have two trucks setting, the lanes are cheap or low ball rates. Am I correct?
If so, why not move the units to a paying lane?
What type of equipment do you have setting? -
i sent one up to indiana a few weeks ago soon as he droped and booked him on a 2nd load he said he was ready to come home i have one driver that runs up there about two weeks at a time and he does a load a day and makes good money bu one guy is 60 and said he has put his time in the 2nd said he needs to be home atleast every 3 days that guy i think he is about to quit now and find a local job these are flatbeds

I can understand both sides on the situation, having to decide on keeping the truck moving or keep the driver happy is a tough call but not preaching at all to you.
Steel is just starting to move on the east side and have been seeing good loads coming in, not in your area but people I know are constantly asking me to get my own truck again to haul for them.
I know it is tough but hey, you have trucks and payments.
Just helped a buddy get a steel load , 3.17 per mile for 456 miles of flat out hauling. No tarp or B.S. -
I have never pulled a load for a broker over $3.00 a mile unless it's under 300 miles bayou that's the rates I been seeing cheap cheap cheap we use to run from Houston to LA and back and could make $1,500 or so a day but loads now out of hear pay $600 going to LA and pay that coming Back so I can't make money at runs like that when driver makes $360 a day than take fuel out not much there and you can't pick up drop than reload and del that same day

And there ladies and gentlemen is the problem.....???????? Im not going to ask you why but if you want to make money in my personal opinion you should start by not paying 55% of your gross, that sir is a HUGE part of your problem. From all the research I can gather flatbed drivers make between 22% and 28% up here in the midwest. I would only pay precentage of the LINEHAUL RATE not including your fsc
-
I don't pay 55% my driver makes 30% of what the truck makes gross than I take taxes ect out of that I was saying on a $600 mile run there and $600 back =$1,200 30% of that is $360 and when you do broker loads most do not include a FSC trust me I did drop new hires down to 20% but started going thru drivers like crazy whent thru 11 in a half a year the truck would have to make $5,k just for the driver to make $1,000 and if you say you make $5,000 or more every week I'll call BS now!!!
