Autoshops suggest replacement when there are more then 3 cracks per inch.

Our trucks are a little different. I would replace a belt at the first noticeable crack or every 100k miles.

I replaced mine when the started to squeal or broke. I was pretty much a good example of what not to do though.

I inspect often using a mini flashlight and replace all at the first sign of cracking. I keep the old ones for spare.

Im glad you posted that as many of my friends think Im being cheap by keeping them!!

A friends belt broke at the port and he was stressing the road call fee. He got on the radio asking someone to "help" and drive him to the parts house and help him change it, well I went over informed him I had a used belt and would put it on for him. He asked how much and I told him $60......he reluctantly paid and I changed it !! When we got done I gave him his money back and told him never to rag on me about keeping "used" belts in the truck lol

    I toss my old belts.

I buy a new set each year, toss them in the truck and the set in the truck goes on the engine.

Old belts that sit in the sleeper aren't worth much. After a year, they probably wouldn't hold up for very long if it had to be used.

Change them every 2 years. As well as alternator, whether the trucks need them or not. Todays high drain demand due to electronics makes it tough on alt.

Same with hoses. Change them every 3 years. lol.

spend a buck at the yard or spend a couple hundred bucks over the road. lol.
