When do you scale?

    I scale when the DOT man makes me. No sense in wasting money. Only time I'm legal is when I'm empty lol

    30,000+ is the only time I scale.

    Most of the places where I load, we are required to scale, both empty and loaded. A few places only require an empty weight once a day or once a month. This of course can vary due to the amount of fuel at the time we load. We are required to scale out, just a gross weight, they don't do axle. I think this is due to them being hammered for allowing over-weight trucks to leave. If we are over-weight they will not allow us to leave, ie; give us a BOL.

    Lyons Salt even pays attention to your destination. For example in Kansas we're allowed to gross 85.5k, but if I'm to deliver to MO, then they refuse to load me greater than 80k. Our trucks are actually permitted to 90k too.

    Im about to go out for my first time OTR should l scale out. Every load. To feel at ease ?

    How much does it weigh? What kind of set up? Van, reefer, flat?

    Well i haven't left out yet i just got hired at pam but im waiting on a truck just wanted yo get sum advice from a experienced driver . it won't hurt to scale evry load does it

    Not at all. Especially being new. Usually for a dry van if the cargo is less than 34K pounds you won't need to scale.

    That's usually. Depends what and how it's loaded as well.
