Gps are a tool, just like the map, it should be used as part of your many devices you use to get to a location. I use a GPS, but I also check it against my current map. The Driver should be lucky you didn't give him a ticket. It's a shame you can give ticket for being stupid. Roads change, conditions change. It is up to the driver to know this and be mindful of his/her surrounding. Trucking 101

It's very easy to read something and know take it out of context. No a big deal, there's room for both of us on this road. : )

Yeah I know, I have the Garmin 550. I went to a shipper in Kansas and followed the Qualcomm directions to this little teeney town. The GPS wanted me to take all kinds of roads, but I ignored it, I didn't want to end up on youtube. The correct way in was a chip and seal, narrow road for about 5 miles. I was so glad I didn't meet another truck because this road had the pavement up about 4 inches from the ground and steep ditches on both sides. Now, I'll slow way down if I meet someone, But sometimes the other driver will... you know.

Yeah I use microsoft s&t's as well. I use it to plan out trips against my atlas and also directions I get from calling shipper or receiver of course. I like planning my trip on streets an trips because its alot easier to see and I can zoom in and out on the addresses of where im going and see what the streets look like. Another thing Ilove about s&t's is that I paid I think it was 30 bucks for the truckstopplus add on for it and now it also shows me all the truckstops, walmarts, restareas, weighstations, and all phone numbers and info for the places as well. But just like myself and countless others have said its only a tool. If the daggone thing tells you to turn down said street, and you dont even look down the road or the signs and its a resedential area or has a low bridge then thats your own fault. Use some common sense if the road looks fishy or really small dont turn use your eyes.!

Don't have a gps, and don't intend to get one. If that man solely uses his gps without reading any signs, he'll be the next idiot that drives off a cliff because he was following his gps directions.

I look addresses up on it when i want to know the layout of the place, how tight it will be backing, etc.

and Marine....you are right...it is a tool. Too bad all the drivers out there so set in their ways who have been drivers long before there were trucks, seem to not like em. Probably because they are mad because they didnt 'have it so easy', and think everybody should get stuck going down a 2 mi road, run into a 12' bridge, have to call 911 to get help backing up to their last turn to get around it.

work smarter not harder.....and if that means i get more tools than a vet driver did 100 years ago......so be it. dont get all butt hurt about it.

    Crusher Thanks this.
