i agree with you, if the people who have paid for the route have rights to sell it, then no one is being ripped off. and for them not to allow you to sell it after they "gave" it to you is certainly disappointing, its understandable. it seems they didnt "give" it to you, but gave you the right to rent it for free.

one person suggested hiring someone to do the route...this may be a dangerous game to play with a company who has given you so much. if you do it behind their back, and they find out about it, there may be repercussions.

only you can answer the real question...are you a safe driver, or are you forced to drive when you should not be driving? in your shoes, id be a whole lot quicker to quit the factory work first. youve got a good head on your shoulders, have made yourself and your company a whole lot (only question how good the commission deal you negotiated is...i wouldve been clamoring for 25%), and you can do the math. NO WAY should you be giving up a cash cow that you have rights to, the route should be about the LAST thing you give up.

and look at it this way...if you could put up with everything youre doing now for 3 years, you could easily save 400-500k. at 28 years old putting 400k into safe investments and forgetting about it would safely mean at 50 years old (getting 6% on your investment, if you arent getting that, you should look for a new advisor) you would have nearly 1.5 mil. thats if you never saved another penny. id fire the advisor who couldnt earn me 10% average...at that rate youd have over 3.5 mil at age 50.

also have no problem with what they are doing. i owned and sold a district of newspaper deliveries once upon a time. i was the district manager, and hired and fired paper(boys) and did the routes myself when i couldnt find a replacement or felt like earning some extra money. i bought it 2 days after they were offered up. was a sweet deal, and was worth every penny i bought it for, and sold it for. a potential buyer should have the question redforeman asked before handing over any money, but in general it doesnt make it illegitimate.
