Penske, in Elkhart, IN, has a driver working as a hiker, who is 90 YO. He still gets around good, threatens retirement, but never does.

It is a little annoying, but there's still a clause where you can stop, set it to on duty, and make that last 20 miles. Hey, there's nowhere to park so have to keep going. Safe haven clause. And if you're not under load, off duty.

    Wargames Thanks this.

I took early retirement in January... but I had to refi my old truck (again) so i still have to work.

Next winter I'll take it a little easier. I only want to run two or three loads south per month... maybe none in Dec/Jan... I have a long neglected hot rod project (actually two) that I should finish before I assume room temperature.

Or I could become a snow bird and haul some in-state bulk produce loads during the winter in FL.... come home after the snow melts.

This is kind of a tough subject/thread, I can't imagine never driving a truck again and never hearing the sounds of a truck...

    Wargames Thanks this.

Well, i got back into trucking after an 8 year break when i went into the Army. I got out as a 20% disabled vet. with a lifetime pension for it (not Much). this was an injury to my left foot that hurts like XXXX! now to top it off, Peddling LTL freight, i have torn both knees and ruptured my rt. biceps tendon. I have been on work. comp Twice which by the way, in Wisconsin, pays Very well, depending on what your avg. earnings are. however now with moderate to severe Rheumatoid arthritis in my Rt. hand i can tell you i deal with Pain every day. I'm 55 and have plans to pulll the plug at 60 when my CDL expires, no plans to renew it. i only hope i can make it that far!

Thanks for all the thoughts about retiring, all of you. I have ran LTL, for 37 years, and next month will be my 38th year. I can remember all them years jumping off the docks, trying to save time. Now I stand near the edge of the dock, look down, and say to myself, Nahh, I walk to the steps, or ramp.

I remember one stop I used to go to every day, and this very pretty young lady worked the docks. UPS, Fed/Ex, were on the docks, I backed in on the other side of them, jumped up on the dock, and she looks at me and says " I dont recognize you with your pants on". UPS and Fed/Ex, say "What kind of service is he giving you?" I always wear shorts, on that day, I wore long pants.LOL
