Off duty, but do show some on duty time at the customer. Provided your company has provided the proper release from work documents.

If I’m doing a drop and hook. It’s all on duty.

Sleeper berth? Really? I haven’t logged sleeper berth in years. It’s not required. Except by the highway lawyers you speak with.

I don't see how people can log Off-Duty. Because you not free to do anything you want. You can't just walk away and go to the movies. You can't call a cab or drop trailer and go do anything you want. We are their for a reason and we can't leave untill the truck is loaded or unloaded.

You can go into sleeper berth but I don't think logging Off Duty a good idea. Nobody will care how you log it untill your are in traffic accident for the most part.

mostly want to get half hour break in rarely my 70 gets in the way so show around 5 minutes on duty and should be fine at 15 minutes for drop and hook ....... and if you happen to run in the back of a school bus your screwed anyways a log entry is the least of your problems ..... the number 1 rule of trucking is never ever hit a school bus you must take the ditch or whatever .... you can hit anything else but must swerve to miss a school bus ..... I guess they need to play phantom 309 on the mtv

If you are sitting in your driver seat, that does not mean you are necessarily "remaining in readiness to operate the commercial motor vehicle being loaded or unloaded". You can sit there as long as you like until they kick you out. Then you can start to get ready to operate the vehicle, that would be on duty. Its pretty black and white. Off duty means you are RESTING not WORKING. Resting is not on duty. If the driver who hit the school bus from behind falsified his logs, then im sure he would be in big trouble. But this discussion is not about the criminal code. Its about Hours of Service regulations. Resting is off duty.....who knows what else falsified...maybe fueling. Regardless, we would have to see the details to analyze that correctly. Resting is still off duty.

Off-duty time is when the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work.

Resting is not Off Duty. You can sit in driver seat resting and listening to radio all day and be required to Attend a Commercial Vehicle being unload or loaded. To be off duty you have to be released from all responsibility of preforming for work. Seems to me we are Attending a Commercial Vehicle being loaded or unloaded. You are their because your truck is their. You HAVE to remain their untill loaded or unloaded. How is that wrong ?
