guys laugh when I say I’m probably within Pennys a mile of running a new truck, granted my ocd about things doesn’t help, but its more then most comprehend to keep up on the old stuff and being able to not distrust a 27 year old truck when you are 3000 miles from home

you can still get a glider if you have another glider title IIRC, I agree they were nice, but with the epa, I’d rather have an actual old title truck for now, I’m sure the day will come when they tell me park that junk in the barn for parades and buy something newer, but in the mean time I’ll keep this one running without any grey areas,

It was more the IRS than the EPA. If the cost of an assembled glider was 75% or more of the cost of a similarly spec’d new truck then FET was supposed to be collected. That’s why the IRS says Fitzgerald owes them over $90mil and is continuing to fight them for it.

Well yeah there's that too I guess. I don't hate Fitzgerald's for making gliders a core part of their business - it was good for them- but at the same time, it kind of hurt small outfits such as where I work, in that it drove the prices through the roof. My boss and his dad ran almost strictly gliders since about 2004 or so. Most were assembled here at our shop. I'm at our yard right now and there's 13 gliders sitting here, ranging from a 2004 Freightliner Classic (which is currently in the shop getting a makeover after one of our knuckleheads jackknifed it) to a 2021 Western Star 4900. And a couple wore out Pete's that are not gliders. Now I guess if we get a new truck around here it will either be a new one with emissions, or some clapped out POS that they'll sink a small fortune into to make it worth using.
