$10,000 fine for opening the dome lids? why?

And what are the "packys" going to see by looking in there? Last i checked, a full load can't always be put in a tank due to innage and outage charts....

Hey, if i white out some readings on an outage chart, and change them, does it make the tank bigger?

Now thats a whole lot of hot air ain't it excuse the pun, ever heard of the driver who didn't know how much fuel was left in his tanker and decided to light a match and check out how low the level was?

I believe you need someone on the job that's been doing it safely for years to really teach you how to handle the extra items you'll need to know. Basicall you'll need to know what you're hauling and how it reacts to all situations. The MSDS is a good place to learn some items. Expect the surge and drive as smooth as you can. If you're not sure about something DON"T guess. Check and recheck. Get into a habit with all your driving skills. Do checks the same all the time. The Smith System is a good program to help. It's not all that hard, it's just you've got to know what you're doing.

There's alot of good tips on this board, the problem is you've got to sort them out. When I first started I did alot of asking and taking notes. I learned as much as I could about our trucks. The tankers are different alot of times with how the internals work and how the hoses are stored and so forth. There are extra laws you should know and you can find them in the CFR 49 parts 100 to 177 and other books you may find at a truck stop. My problem was we never went into a truck stop so we had to learn from the government book. And at times I'd rather stick a pen in my eye than read a government publication.

You need to know the weight of the product because you'll be loading the truck yourself. The weight changes with the temp. That's where your trainer will come in. A good trainer will show you all the safety items on the truck and how to load and unload the product. Before you start the company should train you on how to fight a fire around your truck. Don't freak out because the more you learn the more you control the situation. Your questiuon is very broad and could take pages to answer but you'll learn. Heck I did.

    Hello GasHauler,
Can I ask you something about truck trailer security seals?
If a driver is asked to remove it by the person they are employed by and refuses to do so, then gets fired for it what should the driver do? where should they start looking into? what are your thoughts on a situation such as this?

the driver still hasnt gotten is last pay, and is being asked to sign a paper explaining he has no pretenses towards the employee.

Thank you for all your help.

I'm not trying to argue and personally drive a diesel tanker. Anyhow, we had a gasoline tanker blow up here about 10yrs ago. The blast could be felt at least 1/4 mile away and it continued to burn all day. My CDL instructor is a EMT who helped work the site and his boss/ head CDL instructor hauled fuel with the guy who died. No one knows for sure what happened but witnesses claimed someone pulled out in front of the tanker causing him to swerve into a divider on a bridge (near on off ramp on bridge). This however is a rare case in my opinion of a tanker exploding.

They can break the hinge and become a heavy frisby. Looks real good coming in your windshield.
