Was supposed to load out with a stainless tank in Springfield Missouri yesterday, they claimed the tank wasn't ready, so I sit up at the truckstop till this morning. This morning they weren't even ready to ship as the tank was still on roller and had the guide wheel still attached. So I say for 3 hours waiting for them to finish, as they finish up and go too set the tank on the saddles, the rear edge of the tank body buckles, so now here I sit even longer because now they are repairing it in the air. At this point, I won't even make it through St Louis because of curfew, and any longer of a wait I may not get through Springfield due to curfew. Delivery ous being delayed as well because now the customer won't take delivery till Friday rather than the original Wednesday.
They were charged extra for yesterday's delay, will be charged for today's, and for the extra day of shipping. Sometimes I wander how it is some of these shippers make money.![]()

IluvCATS, Sirscrapntruckalot, x1Heavy and 5 others Thank this. -
I dont wait they have 1 hour to load or unload my tanker, or I load somewhere else or take the product to a diffent plant. Different industry I realize. Best way to wake them up, is pull away.
Mattflat362, Zeviander and cke Thank this. -
I'm ALWAYS willing to wait...IF the price is right. If it isn't, you'll be seeing my tail lights.
Mattflat362, Grubby, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 9 others Thank this. -
I'm getting $200 extra each day of delay $150 for today since i won't get through asst Louis
Grubby, x1Heavy, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's fair for a company driver. As the owner of the truck I drive, however, it would have to be 5x that before I'd even entertain the notion of possibly hanging around...but depending upon what else I may or may not have planned elsewhere, it might take significantly more to convince me to stay.
Mattflat362, Lepton1, Logan76 and 2 others Thank this. -
If your a driver thats ok since you have limited expense, if your a o/o it does not even begin to cover the cost of a parked truckMattflat362 and cke Thank this.

Not trying to be a buster, Gunner...
But THAT'S part of the job. The bigger those loads get, the longer it takes. It's the nature of the Beast. I posted a story years ago about how I was in Wisconsin picking up an elevator for a mine shaft going to West Virginia.
Got there Tuesday afternoon, went inside, and they're working on it. Wednsday morning, the day I was to pick it up, they're still working. Pilot car shows up. We're waiting. Wednesday afternoon, I call my travel agent and tell her that we are going to be in trouble with this load. Yeah yeah, 1000 mile run, got til Friday no problem, right?
All night I am bugging them. We have to load this thing at night in order to be there Friday. Have to. They dont load me until Thursday noon, and suddenly it's "Hurry driver! Hurry! Gotta go!!!"
Sorry guys. There's no way we can deliver this load before Tuesday.
"Tuesday? WTF?"
Monday is Labor Day. Holiday curfew for Indiana and Ohio begins 12 noon Friday.
"Well, cant you get there by going through Alabama or somewhere?"
Curfew for West Virginia is sunset Friday.
Well, the shipper and the receiver got to talking with my company and the WV highway patrol and they came up with this wild plan for the WV HP to escort me through WV in the dark. So, instead of going through Ohio, we cut through Kentucky. Smart. I told them that I would do my best to get through Indiana before noon but if I didn't see the WVHP at the border, I was parking and I wanted $2500/a day for waiting on the side of the road. They agreed.
Made it across the bridge into Louisville at 1205pm Friday. The HP were at the WV/KY line and we rolled through the night and got to the mine about midnight EST. Made alot of money on that run.
Anyways, when delays start happening like that, notify your travel agent and start talking detention pay.
EDIT: I see that you have the detention worked out. Good deal.Mattflat362, Grubby, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 6 others Thank this. -
That's not so bad then.I bet the shipper is taking there time because the delivery date was changed and of course I bet you're the last to know about it.x1Heavy Thanks this.
