I agree with you about the ELD , I'm on my first trip with one in 35+ years of paper logs , just adding a little levity

 

Had a guy come screaming through the lot right in front of me. I flashed my lights, and gave him the “slow down” sign.

You’d thunk he was gonna jump out of his truck and murder me the way he stopped and glared at me for the longest time.

 

Did he have a driver facing camera and a eld?

 

And what does dad 1 do when his son cones home at 10? How does he get his other kids to follow curfew or bedtime when the son habitually flaunts them?

Even in your scenario Dad 1 isn't just going to ignore the kid being late. He's going to ask why, and possibly issue punishment.

 

They're parked illegally because there's not enough ####### space for us to park. Were supposed to shut down when sleepy. But the country isn't building us safe havens when the industry has been growing and regulations stricter. Get ready for everything to be paid parking.

 

You know it's some serious action when the tires squeal on a dirt lot.

I cannot believe I have never tumbled onto that tidbit.

 

Hopefully then that pay parking will come with security and clean bathrooms along with a shower and tested lot lizards.

 

Actually in my mind the way it works is, since Dad #1 is paper logs, and is flexible in the sense of you get in at 8:05, you just put 8:00 on the log.

Your argument is valid in terms of blatantly lying in amounts of hours and not even trying to be legal. However most of us do follow the rules for the most part but because paper logs were able to be tweaked to retain plausible legality, there was a lot less stress and pressure.

Now if you were one of those guys who couldn’t fudge the numbers because he is too good and holy for that, then my little story goes out the window and doesn’t make a difference.

I know I’m new to OTR and all but I was able to run paper logs for a while before having to go on elogs, and I know personally I was far less stressed on paper logs. On elogs I’ve had three runs in the last month and a half that got down to less than 5 minutes on the clock.

Not saying ELD takes away our excuse to run completely illegal... it just takes away the breathing room we had even when running legal.
