I've seen help wanted signs everywhere I go. Lots of businesses in every sector you can imagine are looking for help. As far As the trucking industry, when are they not looking for drivers? As far As the cheap plastic trucks you mentioned. I'm not buying a $125k Truck for an idiot that can barely take care of a $10k Volvo. I mean really ..... have you looked at what qualifies for a driver these days?

While I agree.....how does a company expect to hire better drivers when they refuse to
buy decent trucks? I started driving back when we had real trucks.............now I have the option
to earn basically the same wage without driving a truck...........why would I give up being home
every night with a great family life just to drive a POS truck?

Would you go drive their trucks for the pay they're offering now if they had a nice truck, whether your version of a nice truck is an old 359 or a new Volvo, for you to drive? Honestly the new people they're hiring these days should be better drivers, it should be people who want to drive truck, not those who can't find a job doing whatever else they'd rather do. It's not like there are thousands of people a week being laid off and looking at ending up on the streets in a couple months, or weeks, or driving truck. That's just my hillbilly logic though, I could be all sorts of wrong.

You can always buy your own truck. Then you will understand. If you can draw the same amount of money that you could earn by working then do whatever your conscience allows.

Things have changed the older I get. When I first started it was all about the money.

Now I care more about driving a nice truck.....working for a decent company. Partly because
I have worked for companies that paid better but had horrible "lack of maintenance" programs.

I live in the Kansas City area. Supposedly there are hundreds of jobs and supposedly
employers are offering better and better pay trying to attract new help. I started
watching pretty close and I don't see it. Only companies that are hiring at record levels
are Amazon and UPS.......both have a pretty poor record and ran off the employees they
did have.

Fast food places are hiring but I am not seeing any real pay increases...............a few of
the "fancy" places are offering decent wages. But they are requiring several years experience
and even than only offering minor pay increases.

I saw one company several weeks ago that is requiring several years experience and a
Bachelors Degree and for that they were offering 16$ per hour.

Supposedly gas stations are going to run out of gas this holiday weekend because they
can't find truckdrivers to haul gas. Funny thing is I have not seen a single company advertising
for drivers or offering any real pay increases. Some of the companies claim they are buying
new trucks trying to attract drivers but they are buying some of the cheapest, plastic
trucks out there......seems if a company is having trouble hiring good help wouldn't they
be buying nice trucks?

My question is what are you guys that live in other areas seeing? Maybe I just live
in the wrong area but I am not seeing any real changes in jobs or pay in this area. Guessing
it is a Regional thing.....maybe some area are seeing worker shortages.....doesn't seem to be in
the Midwest. Maybe I don't know where to look but Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Craigslist don't
seem to be real busy.

Over here you can get $15-$16/hr working fast food. Heck the Coast Guard base is offering $18/hr for a dish washer.

Every business i drive by has a help wanted sign out front. Restaurants, retail stores, contractors of all types, gas stations, etc…. Heck the local Ford dealer has a help wanted sign glued to the back of their parts delivery van.

- For some reason, here the property taxes on a ####ty place to rent are about the same as on a comfortable middle class home. Even though they bought the apartments for $50-60k per unit, and the house sells for $150-180k. Local government knows how to get money coming in, with minimal resistance. They're too busy working, and the landlords writing it off.

-For too many employees AND employers, the idea of working hard, and steadily moving up, and getting raises for good work, doesn't much exist anymore.

Its now all about, what do i get this week/month/year. If I don't , then its "NEXT!" for either an employee OR an employer. Loyalty is dead. Life ain't easy. Less luck these days too.

Also, millions of people, mostly women, quit their jobs to be home with the kids since that's where school is now.

I don't have kids..............but several fellow workers do. It is unreal what child daycare
costs.

I meant that if I can work a non-driving job and make the same as a driving job.......I have
worked my whole life. Never been paid for not working.

To me the choice is pretty simple.....If I can pay my bills by doing manual labor and
be home every night.............than a Trucking Company is going to have to step up a little.
