Where can I find good drivers?

.32 cpm is embarrasingly low. If you were running from Chicago to say Texas running 3000 miles a week then .32 is borderline acceptable. With only 1500 to 2000 miles a week running to the east coast any driver with half a brain wouldn't touch it unless it was at least .50 a mile.

 

2000 miles is local work. 32 cents per mile is ok for a trainee. But after taxes what is the actual net? That is what any realistic truck driver will look at , the actual bottom line. Good luck! Just remember the old saying , Pay peanuts get monkeys. Yet someone who is inexperienced may take the job or someone down on their luck. Just make sure if you get someone with little experience that you take them for a good test drive. Not saying new drivers can't be good , just saying. Hey everyone has to start somewhere. Besides .32 a mile and $25 a drop do you have anything else to offer? Like 401K or health insurance? Is this a 1099 job? Is the equipment old or new? The more information you give us the more we can help you.

 

He is asking for 3 years experience, I would hope a driver with 3 years experience can pass a road test?? lol With the regular runs you have as you mentioned I would think you should make enough money to pay a driver well to get the job done and if not maybe consider a different lane cuz you aint going to get that job done with a cheap driver, you will go thru drivers like toilet paper. With that kind of run you should be able to pay a driver a nice wage

 

From Chicago out to PA or NJ and back is only 1500 to 1600 miles round trip a week, I see now the truck is not making enough coin to pay a driver a nice wage

 

I wouldn't touch that for anywhere near that rate...

A good rate would be .45/cpm

25 per stop after the first...

20/hr for detention after first 2 hours

Company paid medical/dental/eye

401k or pension


Thats the rates you need to find quality drivers...

 

12 yrs experience,no accidents or tickets,Ive paid my dues.Wouldnt work for .32

 

There are a lot of younger new drivers looking for jobs, we all had to start somewhere. Take your time hiring one and try and find a good one and let them work for you and give them a chance as it sounds like you have had good luck in the past with inexperienced drivers and you still have some around. I know a lot of carriers who have done that and have turned out to have some great drivers. Don't be afraid to hire anyone who is willing to learn and a go getter, those can be some of the best drivers out there, NOT ALL I said some.. Good luck to you but I am a believer of giving those new guys a chance if you can make it happen..Specially in the situation your in
