Truck stops are at least 30 minutes away. If I'm only home for a day or two, I'd sure like to not spend 2-3 hours of it driving back and forth to check on the truck.
I guess I better ask them.
Where do I park?

Flatbed, actually in MANY locations this isn't Walmart forcing it, but city ordinance. The parking lot is usually leased city property on these large stores and malls. They're also the ones who in many locations place the bars to keep trucks from entering properties. In some places it is due to high volumes of trucks overcrowding a location, in others it is due to the high volume of trash (and "bombs").

I realize the City Ordanance part of it in SOME but not all locations, but even before that started WALMART was tired of the Dirt / Trash and Damage that truckers caused.

you wont be sent home often with a load has been my experience no load no need to babysit
and besides your worrying about the future it will take care of itselfZen Trucker Thanks this. -
Yes be very careful parking at any Walmarts or any stores for that matter. Make sure to get written permission if you do! Another thing to keep in mind when trying to find a parking spot is that sometimes you may come home under a load so you need to find somewhere safe. Something else to consider is if you run reefer. Reefer's can be loud and neighbors don't like them! You also don't want to park too far away if you have a reefer running because you will want to check on it every couple hours or so to make sure everything is kosher. Make sure that where you park you aren't going to get stuck or blocked in by other trucks or cars. Make sure the ground is solid enough to support the truck, trailer and if you drop it the landing gear. Always keep it locked in the back and if you drop it put a kingpin lock on it.

I haul refrs, we are allowed on hour for dinner away from the load.
i can't imagine as many thefts of flatbed products compared to box trailers. Most flatbed loads you would need a crane to unload! I guess they could steal the truck and/or trailer...
I was lucky enough to have a local company yard only 70 miles away. I could park there and take my personal car home.
Now that I am doing local work I pay for a spot at a public storage site less than a mile from my house. $87 a month but it is only for the tractor.
500 miles away from the "local" yard is quite a bit. And the few days you will be home per month will make renting less than economical.

This is best thing, find a local truck repair shop, and tell them to rent you a space to park,do not leave your truck on a truck stop or in walmart or in any shopping center,u will be get tow and fine, plus never loaded,i rent a space for thermo kings locally, they charge me $80.00 a month.but is safe and secure.
