Hey! I've been driving commercially for a decade. Currently, I work as a City Driver for Estes. My wife and I are moving to Dallas or Houston later this year for her new job. Are there any LTL carriers that pay at least $35 an hour? I know I can transfer to an Estes terminal in those areas but I'm hoping to use this opportunity to get a pay bump (I'm at nearly $29 now). Any suggestions? My primary concerns are strong benefits, being home daily, and consistent hours (no unexpected days off).
Where Is $35/Hour Possible for LTL Drivers?

CDL Life or Freightwaves just had a general advertisement of $25 to $65 hour.
The driver shortage is REAL.LTL_Life and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Not that real. I have been a yard jockey for 7 years. Before that I did local food delivery and OTR for 2 years before that. They don't consider yard jockying driving experience although at my facility I have to back into doors of a facility built in the 1800s. I run city streets every day and cross rail road tracks several times a day. I applied for a driving position at a few companies. Was told no by all. I have a clear driving record and hire right is clear.LTL_Life Thanks this.

You may want to call Dallas or Houston and see what P&D drivers are making there, you might get your pay bump. The pay rate for Estes is not universal, different terminals get paid differently based on cost of living in the area. Best of luck!LTL_Life and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

If you transfer threw Eates do you keep your seniority? If so that maybe you best bet. At FXF in the midwest we just had a drivers meeting. And we were told business was down 10% from where we are projected to be right now. I dont see it getting much better this year. Winter is probably going to be pretty rough this year.
Not sure if this would be a good time to be on the bottom of seniority. Unless you have guaranteed dock work.road_runner, LTL_Life and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Even the LTL market has changed in DFW from what I have seen. Many of those advertising for drivers are now advertising for dock workers and managers and have 0 driving jobs posted or very few.

If you transfer to the Estes terminal in Houston stay away from the roundhouse ln terminal, I worked there and drivers barely work 40 to 43 hrs a week and management is super toxic, sometimes you will have to call in the morning to see if there's any work avaliable.
The other Estes terminal at the collingsworth location drivers seem very pleased but don't know much about hours or their management.Old_n_gray, road_runner, LTL_Life and 2 others Thank this.
