Cant remember the name of the town, but if you run 80 west in Illinois, past the last scale before you cross the bridge into Iowa (same exit you get off to go to JD East Moline, but instead of turning left, you turn right)and run up that road 20 something miles, there's a power plant on the other side of the river from Davenport. I took a 1500 lb crate up there. The people come and check out the crate at 0600. They cut a hole in the crate to inspect it. A guy says, "Wow, this should be easy. We should have you unloaded by noon!
"Noon?"
they come back to get me at 0800. I go through their security checkpoint and get escorted into the plant. They all go on break. 0900, they come back and have a safety meeting about the crate. 1000, they bring out the BigRed forklift (overkill for a 1500 lb crate, wouldn't you say? They have 20+ safety men come out and establish a human perimeter around my truck. I have to stay outside the perimeter for my safety. They have 2 spotters on either side of the forklift, guiding it in. It takes nearly 10 minutes to guide the forks in.
They take a break and then have another safety meeting. They monitor the wind, ask the forklift operator of he feels comfortable with the lift, and both spotters nervously give him the okay to lift up the 1500 lb crate. They have a quick safety meeting and finally pull the thing away from the trailer. It's almost noon. They break for lunch.
you got near 25 people tied up to watch a 50000 lb forklift pick up a 1500 lb crate. And it takes half a day. One freakin crate. Yeah, my heart bleeds for the unions when they price themselves out of a job.milskired, Cluck Cluck, Sleepy68 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Home headed out to Letterkenny tomorrow then to Dundalk got 5 loads all lined up...anybody ever carry those small military 7ft containers? Any tips on securement? If not I'm sure the boys @ the depot will have pics up or something!

Spent all day at the trailer dealer, but should be good to go now. I am now stupid heavy empty, 46500. Now I really need my new truck. Leaving Denver in the morning for Fleming, co (if I can get through the flooded area) then on to Tulsa.
