    You all are going to love this little deal..
    Rented a pickup from Herttz so I can get my wife to the Atl. airport in the morning. only 510 miles on it.
    Got it parked to the left of our trk.
    I see one of the contractor tks. backing up by it on the left side. Still daylight out and not a tight spot. Plenty of room. ........






    Yep you guessed it. Backs into the left rear quarter panel of the pickup trk. I heard a slight crunch nise and I see him pull up and move more to the left.
    He parks and I get out of our trk. and walk over just to check things out.. Slight gouge in it and panel bent in.
    I calmly tell him you hit the pick up. Huh??
    I show him and he's like what hit it. The mudflap bracket did.
    So I call Hertz and then they said call the police and make a report..
    He was good about, but a backing accident with a bobtail on company property. Oh yes he was Sober....

    No clouding, so maybe it was just the drain valve that had a little ice in it? I have been noticing that when I fuel, my caps have the white frost junk on the inside, can't argue with the cold I reckon!

    I haven't had a problem, but the issue was while driving. I wouldn't want anything wrapped around anything under my hood at 70mph!

    In Garden City after an eventful day...
    Got the new circuit board and remote at @0930 this morning.
    Installed it, and it synch'd right away and turned the wheels! Great deal, let's roll. Defrost fingers (-5) and off we go.
    Pulled out the parking spot, Janice turned the wheels all left, and then they stopped working again!
    Did some testing, and the stop switches had jammed! Wouldn't turn with the corded remote this time, so totally screwed. Bypassed the SOB's and told Janice how to NOT keep the button mashed when it is at full lock, and off we go again after defrosting my fingers AGAIN!
    Last run (so far), so fingers crossed everything else goes well on this darn run!

    Estevan SK. It's supposed to wind chill to the mid -40's C tonight.Brrrrrr

    Saw 4 trucks with trailers, on the hook between Fargo and Minot plus 3 more abandoned on the shoulder. They were all late models as well. Me thinks DEF trucks don't like these temps.

    I get to play with tarps in the morning, that should be a workout.

    Personally I always run 96 to 50. You have one stop to turn in Hutchinson and the next time you have to stop is in Dodge City (3 lights). 54 to 400 you have lights getting out of Wichita, then Kingman, Pratt, 1 in Greensburg then Dodge City you have to go around the south side on the new bypass or cut north from the J up to 50 not to mention several more small towns you have to slow down for plus more traffic.

    I don't think it's the DEF at all, it will freeze solid as a rock at temps below 30 but the truck will run just fine. I froze mine the other night and no problems with it at all, took a while to thaw once the truck was running and the heat was flowing.

    I was told by KW that due to the higher pressures and smaller nozzles on the injectors to atomize the fuel better the manufacturers are using a finer spec filter.

    Diesel rarely turns to actual "gel" but the wax that is present in the fuel in a liquid state begins to precipitate and turn to a solid state at lower temperatures. Even fuel additives can't stop this but they keep the wax in finer particles which for the most part pass older filters. Now with the finer filters what would have flowed before plugs the filters. Just yesterday morning I stopped for my 2 hour split and shut the truck off. It was -14 so after two hours the fuel really didn't want to flow. I looked in the primary filter and it was cloudy but far from being bad enough to be considered "gelled". I ran a pot of water in the coffee maker, slowly poured it over the filter and 5 minutes later all was good, only drawing about 2" of suction on the filter.

    Yea I ran 54 to 400 I don't think I'll run that again I like the idea of way less stops. Martin IMF of these days I'll catch up with ya I'm just getting ready to pull out of garden city right now as they canceled the load they wanted me to meet. Starcar looks good tho.

    I didn't think it was the DEF. As I understand it, the DEF has something like 100 minutes to thaw out before the engine gets derated. But there is something about the fuel systems in these newer engines that is susceptible to cold temps it seems. A friend with a 2013 ISX has cold weather issues whereas his 04 ISX had none.
