One word.....WORK!
Laying out 10x12's to drive the machine onto, then pushing the trailer under the machine, then blocking under the machine on the beams, then putting it all back together and airing up to remove the blocks under the wheels/tracks/etc. Then the joy of stacking up all those blocks and strapping/chaining them down.
On the other end, put blocks under wheels/tracks, unchain and drop the trailer on the ground, air down the rear, remove blocks from beams, go around the back and drag the trailer out from under the load. Drive load off the blocks, put trailer back together and then restack all blocking to chain down.
Excavators are a LOT easier than these compactors, as you can use the stick to lift and lower the machine for blocking it up. You can also use a couple of 2' blocks on each side to get it up over the trailer, so don't need to push the trailer under the load. Pushing the trailer also ASSumes a forklift is available to do it, or it's chain time to the front bumper of the truck. Another option is to lay out 10x12's all the way under the machines wheels to drive it over the trailer, if you want to carry the things and then handle them repeatedly. Wont work on trash compactors too well though, as the spikes would all have to hit the blocking.
For certain loads, they work great. For the other 90%, they are a PIA in my book.
With a few sheets of 3/4" plywood, this load and the next one could have gone onto my normal 3 axle RGN. Height would have been OK too I think.

So the plywood would protect the deck from the spikes on the drums? They are choosing to use the beam to avoid damaging the floor? Are the primary advantages of the beam trailer is to lower the height and being lighter than a normal RGN? I always assumed the beam would sit on the ground when detached and the machine would be able to driver over. I didn't realize you had to get the machine up on blocks so the beam could be slid underneath.

The plywood protects the deck from most types of spikes, correct.
The beam will lower the actual height of the loaded machine, as the wheels are @12" off the ground instead of @20". The beam trailer is @3k lbs lighter than my normal 3 axle, but my trailer also has 29'4" in the well instead of the 26' this has.
Driving over it depends on the load mate. Something with good ground clearance (at least2') would make it. Everything else is blocked up from the ground
If I was to pull one again on a regular basis, the first thing I would do is get a camera mounted either on my headache rack, or on the rear crossmember. Lining these up is a nightmare at times! There is absolutely nothing to guide you when backing up to either reattach the neck, or just pick it up.
Another bad thing about ours is that only 1 hole between cross members in the well, has a "floor" in it. A flor right along would make storing blocking a LOT easier.

Wrestling was on when I went in to have dinner. There were actually guys waiting along the wall to get a table to watch even though there were other tables available but you couldn't see the tv. Then I actually heard guys arguing about which wrestler is better blah blah blah. If there would have been a tall tree and a rope I might have been tempted to use it for myself.passingthru69, Cluck Cluck, Rugerfan and 4 others Thank this. -
Warming up, kids are on spring break.
