Remember "JEVIC"?
Owner sells out, signs a contract where he would have to stay out of the business for 5 years. As soon as the 5 years were up, he started a new company, and pulled all his contracts back. Jevic went belly up overnight. Can't remember the name of the company...think it's "Premier"? I think MJ and Mr Pape gave you excellent advice. I'd look more into making my own name than taking on someone else's name.
Where is everyone #2!!

Milskired, CPAPE and MJ pretty well hit it right on. If I might add also, $10K in the bank just starting out in this particular situation is not nearly enough. When you were working for TMC you said many times that you loved what you did, pulling open deck equipment, honestly I don't think you will be happy pulling a refer, I know I wouldn't do it again, I would rather makes sandwiches at Subway than pull a trailer with doors on it.
If it were ME, I would see if he would be willing to sell the truck and trailer only, I would have no interest in buying his authority. If you can buy the equipment for a VERY good price, I would turn around and sell the trailer and put that money in the bank for a bigger emergency fund. Lease onto a GOOD carrier pulling open deck (if your heart still yearns for it), and in time decide if getting your own authority is what you really want to do.MJ1657, passingthru69, milskired and 1 other person Thank this. -
That was actually the exact same as I was thinking.
Honestly I was not very hopeful in obtaining his accounts after the sale but after seeing rates and working out costs, I can see it still working out. I do agree Oscar, I have pulled a reefer for a year and did not like it a whole bunch but it was for Prime....
CPape, as for the pay to myself I set it at 52K a year before tax which I can easily live off of and as for insurance I already budgeted that into my fixed costs at 800 per month. I am suppose to sit down with the owner this weekend and talk with him more and I am going to see what he would sell the truck only for. I know the trailer would be worth around 10, 15 on the very high end of things. -
Remember to blink and get that starry eye look out of your eyes when approaching this deal..
I remember when I bought this trk. I bought it for all the wrong reasons and I stated that to people.
Now having my own so long, I think it would be hard driving for somebody else again, but who knows. Money talks
Good luck in what ever you do...281ric, milskired, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Take someone with you. Don't go alone. You've sold your self on it 90% you need that 10% tap on the shoulder. ..

Sage advice. It's like having a buddy at a bar talking you telling you that the hot girl you're into may not be female. If you're cool with the arrangement, your buddy will never say another word to you about it.

How did that go. " A friend will bail you out of jail. A true friend will be sitting next to you in jail"
milskired, passingthru69 and old time Thank this. -
I always heard it as. A friend will help you move, a true friend will help you move a body.passingthru69, old time, milskired and 2 others Thank this.

Had it happen to a friend of mine. Walked into a bar to meet a buddy. He's sitting on a barstool watching a boxing match with a "girl". I don't say a word. I walk over to a table and sit down. 2 older women are snickering, "Your friend is sitting with a kweer". I nod, and they continue to snicker. The boxing match is in Spanish.
"Can you follow this boxing match?"
'Yep. Guy in the blue shorts is getting his arse kicked'
My buddy got up to move to my table and she male grabbed his arm. "Wait, don't go."
'Hold up...you're too strong to be a woman!'
She male left and my buddy joins me at my table. The two older ladies start singing a little jingle, "You like the kweer! You like the kweer!"
'Six...did you know that wasn't a woman?'
Yes, I did.
'Why didn't you say anything?'
I knew eventually, you would figure it out before things went too far.milskired, passingthru69 and Rontonio Thank this.
