You should call him back and ask if he needs a hug.

Something kind of nice that will restore your faith in the younger generation:

Pull into the auction yard with a load of hay and there's nobody around. So I start to leisurely unstrap the hay. After a bit a 16 year old kid come riding up on an ATV and says he's the only one around today.

    Uh oh...

Then he pipes up, "One of these forklifts ought to start up and run." And the second forklift he jumps on starts up so he uses it to unload the hay.

I was there and completely unloaded in under an hour. Almost a record for fast and easy unloading.

I'm thinking I'd like to give him five bucks as a little tip, but the only thing I have in my wallet is twenties so I offer him one.

Do you know he refused the money at first? I had to almost insist he take it.

We chat for a bit, and as I'm headed out I don't really know what to say, so I just tell him, "When you see your parents tonight, tell them they can be very proud of you."

My best wish I can give to my friends on this board is that our kids (and grandkids) behave like this, even when we're not around to see it.

    Great post.

It's easy to find fault with the younger generation, so it's great to call attention to the exceptions as well.

My buddy's daughter was 16 in driver's ed, riding in the backseat. The kid driving was matching speeds with an OD load. My buddy's
daughter yells, "Hey stupid! Why are you matching speed with an oversize? Either get by him or get behind him!"

The instructor was impressed, "Your dad is a driver, right? Do you think that he would mind coming up to the school?" She responded, "No, he won't." "Why not?", asked the instructor. She said without missing a beat, "Because he thinks you are an idiot."

Where and when is the hay auction? I'm about out and I get in trouble if I don't feed mama's hayburners.
