You do know that he is working at a concrete company driving a mixer at the moment, right?Rugerfan Thanks this.

Very good call mate.
For a first time O/O, a pre emission truck makes great sense, as it lets you get used to working on it, without all the extra BS involved in a DPF, DEF junk, etc.
I loved my 2000 500 Detroit, and it was very easy to work on myself, much easier than the current Series 60 that's for sure.
The MBE motor was also a piece of cake to DIY too, easier than a S60 in most jobs in fact.
In time to come, you can trade for a later year truck if it's cost effective. Otherwise, keep wrenching on the older stuff and keep it going. I wouldn't believe the total crap about emissions saving the planet for a second neither. My 2000 was every bit as clean as this '09 is. In fact the stacks were cleaner. It got better MPG and went the 775k miles I had it all but trouble free. Never figured out how trucks getting worse MPG are better for the environment myself, unless of course the EPA doesn't have a clue
Keep us posted, and if you want an opinion etc (based on experience), feel free to hit me up.

He has also been talking about going back OTR, as the concrete gig dies a death at times, IIRC that is.

LOL I will be surprised if my company does not lock its gates at the end of this year. They claim to have not made a profit last year, in fact they still owe hundreds of thousands of dollars for sand, stone, slag, and cement powder. We cant go to those 2 quarries until we are paid up LOL. They just run the bill up at the other 2 that we can still get into, who knows how long that will last though. Can anybody see a bankruptcy coming??? Especially when they do all the book keeping in house.....
leftlanetruckin Thanks this. -
I forgot he was no longer with Too Much Chrome
so let me rephrase, he will go back from where he came and then knock someone off the main perch on the best freight branch of the tree.passingthru69, leftlanetruckin and milskired Thank this. -
I don't see a lot of movement unless you become a door slammer for another mud company? there is starting up a gunite or shotcrete company. you can solicite your own business. maybe
