Another point is to negotiate with your parts suppliers discount rates. Then have a 20% markup on parts. This way the customer gets parts for about what they would cost them anyhow. Plus a reasonable labor rate. Normally parts markup covers shops fixed costs.

I don’t always drink beer, but that Sam Adams Octoberfest is only around for a limited time.

It sure looks cool, but if I owned the thing, I'd know I'd be throwing cash out the window with every plume that came out.

Most states will have the clearances listed on their websites. Most are well over 14' and only permitted over height loads will ever have an issue.

Dealers are 150$ in sask. Independent shops are 100-120. I know a guy or 2 billing 80/hr.
If I quit and started my own shop it would be 100 or 110/hr.
It depends how you charge as well. Some guys will bill for every minute on a job regardless of what happened. I would probably stay with the flat rate billing. One of our customers used to get a lot of work done at a small shop because it was only 90/hr. He started getting work done with us and it was cheaper. If the other shop only charges 90$/hr but takes 4 hours to do something we would only bill 2 at 150$ for, the higher $ per hour isn't really more.
It also depends how much demand there is and how many contacts you have. I know enough customers if I started a shop I could guarantee a full shop year round at 110$/hr. Around here if you are a mechanic with no work something is wrong. If you don't have many customers out of the gate, sometimes a lower $/hr will bring more in.
