GM went all out and almost beat the Briggs and Stratton repower Kit that time. Only 4 times the cost. What a bargain !

Just think how far the world has come. The owner of my company told me his first construction job in the early 70’s they had a Diamond REO I think. There’s a hill on 270 on the north end, it’s not real bad buts it’s a pull. He said they’d be down under 10 mph pulling it with a small excavator on.

Compared to the gasser that’s came out of that truck it was probably a powerhouse.

The fella that I went to work for in 1980 had a 1970 Pete with a Freuhauf load over the back lowboy. The Pete had a 5x4, 8v71. Hauling his D7G over Galena Summit was a half day task. Slow going up and even slower going down the other side.

First job I ever had that required driving was in a boom truck. '71 Ford with a 391 propane engine and a 5+4. Once in a while I'd get a jobsite up in the mountains west of Denver. Riding that slow sure gave the opportunity to admire the scenery.
