20191015_104055.jpg Well, this Shaffers oil seams to be workin out....so far. Ran 320 miles monday half loaded at 144000 lbs. Oil temp was cooler, egts were bout 150 deg. Cooler. Lost bout 4 lbs oil pressure but I expected that. Only thing I didn't like was I had alot of smoke out the blowby tubes on a hard pull. Sales rep said that will happen the first oil change till the engine gets cleaned.....it may have been that I found the valve lash tight on my front rocker shaft. When I replaced the broke injector rocker I adjusted it but got lazy and didn't check the lash on the others on that shaft. So i did a complete overhead yesterday. When I took valve covers off this is what I seen. The black film residue is gone. This synthetic blend oil is doing what they claim so far.

Kinda, not as abrasive as emerycloth. For polishing metal.....don't EVER use emerycloth though ! Don't ask me how I know this. In my young and know it all days of past I learned that lesson !! LOL

3M or another supplier makes different kinds of " polishing cloths " for lathe work. Back in 80 when I was in a machine tool school I believe that it was spelled as " crochet cloth " although it was pronounced as crocket. It's been a while I believe that is correct though.

I do remember from tech school (like 12 years ago) my instructor telling us to use high grit sandpaper? on crankshafts and never emery cloth.

Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed egt would be much different. How do you monitor blowby on a hard pull?

Just take it to a major city near some truck stops. Turn your cb to channel 19 and listen for those guys wanting to polish wheels and tanks. Tell him to use a green bar on it with a high speed buffer:thumbup:
