So I got to play mechanic today. Heated seat in the Kia hasn't been working for several months now. Still lights up, passenger side still works fine, probably just a short in the switch (it comes on but doesn't stay on). Also, the rear hatch window washer wasn't spraying right and needed investigation.

Since it's getting colder and my wife has already been complaining about a cold bottom in the mornings, I thought it would be about time to finally get to it.

Washer was easy enough to diagnose. The light assembly that holds it was cracked, and the spot for the nozzle had broken pieces of plastic changing the direction of spray. Must have been from when the body shop did insurance repairs from the last time my wife was rear-ended (I'm guessing they just yanked it out and it snapped).

I was able to gorilla glue the sides back together and the washer works "okay" now that the path has been cleared, but it should be replaced (the washer fluid is leaking into the light housing and the electronics aren't sealed from the elements anymore).

Took the seat heater switch assembly apart, didn't seem like anything was sticking under the switch, so probably a bad connection. Call Kia about the heater switch, they wanted $140 CAD before tax for it! FFFFFFFFF that! Tried taking it apart to actually check the switch connections at that point, but didn't have any luck.

Went online in search of better prices. Found a site called Fourgreen (out of Inkster, MI). Kia forums recommended them and they said parts are OEM (I don't care so long as it works), so I found the parts and as soon as I saw the prices, I loaded the cart and ordered them.

$22.14 USD for the switch and $32.79 USD for the light/washer assembly. $36.06 USD shipping and I paid over $10 CAD less than what Kia wanted for just the heater switch. I'm so glad I was taught enough skills as a kid by my father (and still have him available to help when necessary) to do simple repairs like this on cars. I can only imagine Kia would charge me in the neighbourhood of $500 to do them in-house.

Also, went and got myself a new pair of boots.

Timberland 6" Resistor composite toe. Wasn't sure I wanted a CSA pair, since I've already got my MET-guard boots, but darn are these comfortable. Extremely flexible for a safety boot, suede on the outside, good feeling through the sole for driving (slip- and puncture-resistant amazingly) and fit really, really well.

Kinfolk always said patience is a virtue.....

Bet your glad you waited and didn’t those parts through Kia lol;).

Few years back we got my wife a 2010 Chevy Traverse. After a good while a noise came in the steering, so I went to searching. When I narrowed it down, I found GM created that problem at the factory...!! I called GM and explained what was going on, and that I knew it was their creation! They payed 100% of everything fixing it which included a whole new rack & pinion and p/s pump.

@OLDSKOOLERnWV if I recall correctly so dont murder me. They had some V12 gas in GMC's. Only 2 of them. Later 60's they had the Hendrickson's with a V12 detroit for the turnpike double 40's. But buy that time he was back driving his own truck.

Hard to find guys still alive that worked for them. They had a terminal in Tiffin around 1950's.

My tax lady has her dads original GMC with a V12 702 cubic inch gas engine. She is slowly getting it back up and running. Think it’s a 1964 if memory is correct.
