Im glad I only work on trucks. The occasional motorhome is enough of a pain in the butt. That sounds horrible especially with a puzzle gasket.
I imagine its all clean down there under the belly pan too eh? ;)

Yes. Single turbos are 2 bolt. Acert are 4

We recently replaced the steer axle seals and bearings. The guys at Peterbilt sold us the Stemco seals with the wear ring stating that they tend to last longer. The right one began leaking just a little bit and we replaced it with a conventional seal. @Lilbow and I wondered if it could be leaking under the wear ring, and now that you mention silicone I suppose we should have put a thin film on the spindle before installing the wear ring?

I find that even when we make mistakes it is no more expensive than having taken it to a shop, and we learn along the way. Problem is I ain't gonna live long enough to learn everything that I should have already known!

First time in a looooong time that I've done a mid-day coverall change. Its not super clean under there but most of the mud was in the belly pans. I actually prefer equipment to trucks. Owners tend to not care too much if you accidently scuff the paint lol.

The off road world of Cat engines is quite different than the on road world. This C15 Acert is a single turbo. Actually a lot of the off road stuff is single turbo it seems.

Yes. Thin layer between the spindle and wear ring as @superhauler stated.
We usually install the one peice outrunner seals but as soon as you have damage on the spindle its time to go to stemco. I think stemco actually lasts longer, just takes a bit more time to remove/ install.
