Wipe the journal in the block out and make sure it’s clean, you can put a dab of oil in it to help prevent rust but I’d wipe it back off.

@AModelCat , a little word to the wise if I may.......
I use to pull wrenches in the side in my garage at the home place. About 28 yrs ago I had a 1987 1/2 ton 4x4 Chevy pickup come in for a full engine rebuild. 350 V8....
Took it all apart and dropped the block off to be cleaned, magna-fluxed, and bored 0.030 over to a 355 cubic inch.
And the crank turned 0.010 / 0.010 in the journals.
Ordered all new parts to build this engine back to new condition. Owner was very meticulous....!!
Went to pick the block & crank up, machine shop owner told me.... hey I went ahead and washed the crank too after we turned it. Oh ok, thanks I said...
Driver didn’t have his truck back a week and brought it back. Jim will you listen to my engine, it sounds weird!!
Long story shortened way up...
I found a rod bearing and journal scarred up terrible!! When I picked the block & crank up the guy told me he washed the crank “after” turning it, and that being in the back of mind I didn’t check the oil gallies in the crank. And it came back to bite me in the backside!!!!
There was a metal shaving stuck in the oil galley between the Main journal & the rod journal. With oil pressure and centrifugal force it washed right into the rod journal and had a buffet at my expense!!
I may not have much in this old world, but I’ll go to my grave with honor because of being a man of my word.
I bought him a new crank and new bearings with the needed gaskets and replaced it all. And just so you know it can be done..... I changed the crank with the block still in the truck, had a automatic transmission.
All that jibberish said... make sure you check and clean all your oil passages.
We look forward to your progress in the future..... -
