My 2 cents is young and single is the time to follow your dreams. The hardest part is making up your mind to go. It might go hard or it might go easy. But a good man will be successful no matter where he is or what he's doing.

 

Biggest thing is I'll never have the lifestyle I want here. Even since the oil crash 6 years ago a small piece of land with a house here is still double what it costs elsewhere. Because there's virtually no OT anymore the pay isn't a whole lot different from other parts of the province either. At least when it was boomtime a guy could easily put in 350 hours a month if he wanted to lol.

 

The Cliffs notes version of what I did is this:

Walked away from a $70k a year job turning wrenches in Denver. Interview for a mechanic job in Montana failed largely due to some ill timed Hershey squirts. Came to Evanston with enough money to get the wife and kids out here. First job I took was for $12 an hour.

I would absolutely do it all again (except maybe those burger king onion rings).

Why? There is no comparison in the quality of life in small town vs Denver. My kids and life in general are better off because of it.

The customer still not ready to move the piece. Turns out the lathe they shipped in from St Louis was missing a key part that now is being airfreighted in tonight. So we can try again tomorrow
