I did mine mainly to prevent electrolytic corrosion - no clue if makes a difference here in the rust belt, but figured it was worth a try?
Grounding for the lighting would do me no good since my East has a completely sealed system and all ground goes through the pigtail only. The only place the trailer is actually grounded to the trucks battery is from my aux harness at the rear axle dump junction box.
