We had a 99 Tahoe growing up. 350. Did 20s no problem. Havent figured out why fuel economy now isnt as good as it was then.
The last diesel pickup I had if you babied it and kept it under 70 got as high as 30 on long trips.

No one cared back then. Some of the best cars, all 3. But we care now and that requires tech and money. And a reason to sell you a new one.singlescrewshaker, Slowpoke KW, cke and 3 others Thank this. -
Economy cars getting 70mpg but now it's some big hudu to get half thatsinglescrewshaker, Slowpoke KW, cke and 2 others Thank this.

Correct, but all those parts and battery packs have a environment impact too. We dont talk about it. Which way is right?singlescrewshaker, dwells40, Slowpoke KW and 5 others Thank this. -
Hydrogen.
Anything on a battery is no better than fossil fuel. You're still getting it from the ground. One could argue that mining for batteries is dirtier than drilling and burning fossil fuels but that's a conversation they arent ready for.singlescrewshaker, dwells40, Slowpoke KW and 4 others Thank this. -
Research battery companies that have moved to Mexico. Once a property is contaminated and employees are dying, they lock it up and build new building. No one stopping them.
Hydrogen helps. The reason we are not big in it is tax revenue and that the general motoring public are stupid and it's more dangerous during refueling.singlescrewshaker, exhausted379, dwells40 and 5 others Thank this. -
Meanwhile, on a farm somewhere in North Dakota....

Right. Theres not really viable long term alternative currently.
Sure shine would be a good alternative. But how much corn is required to meet the demand for fuel? Itd me more than what we could grow and still have a food supply as well.
Solar/wind/hydro would be if battery tech didnt involve digging #### out of the groundcke, singlescrewshaker, SAR and 3 others Thank this. -
