Agreed, and I'm more than certain that you do Sir. More than certain.
Your right anymore just doing the job correctly can make you stand out from others. That's sad, and scary because are family and friends travel these roads too. But this freight moves normally on the cheapest truck available.

I think its cause the shippers know once it leaves their yard, they have almost no liability. So the shipper goes with whoever is cheapest, cause it doesn't matter to them what happens once it leaves.
That's not all shippers, but the majority. JMO, which doesn't mean much.1951 ford, cke, Slowpoke KW and 7 others Thank this. -

LoL. So let's see..
Think it was the Christmas season of '03, I was 19 almost 20 years old. UPS hires "holiday help" from Thanksgiving to Dec 24th. I picked this up as a 2nd job for extra cash to get my then girlfriend something nice for Christmas..
So I was already working 7am to dark on a tree farm, so I took the truck loading shift from 1:30am-6:30am. By the 4th day of working I was already seeing funny, & couldn't read the labels on the packages whizzing bye on the conveyor. After a while I just grabbed whatever package I could get my hands on & stacked the truck haphazardly. Think I had 3 trucks I was loading.? It was a fiasco. Why they didn't sheet can my butt,? No idea..
Looking back now, I realize I screwed those poor drivers royally. Never should have taken that job..
Long story short, I can attest to what you saying about UPS trucks being loaded horrendously..

Lazy sob's..?
I watch straps & chains like a hawk. I'm like you, stop once in at least the 1st 60min of driving. Then everytime I stop for fuel, coffee, food, or wiz I'm thumping all tires, & cranking on winches or binders. Don't want to kill anyone, or have something flop off my wagon & have an insurance claim, or worse..
Edit. May be even more important for you in a cover wagon as you can not see the chain in your mirrors..?1951 ford, cke, Slowpoke KW and 8 others Thank this. -
