Where is everyone #5

Before i raised kids id say yes to that. It sounds logical.. After my first one autistic and second one ADHD.. Nope. No definitive correlation. Wife and i love every hair on their heads and are on the same page on everything. We work our butts off, in church every sunday, dont shy away from consistent discipline and rewards, never let them sass elders, make them do chores and stuff, dont spoil em etc etc.. They still can be animals. My son spent half of first grade in suspension.. That didnt even exist when i was in first grade, and i know we are great parents.

I know some fantastic parents with kids in jail, i know fantastic kids with parents probably looking for a good vein right now. You just never know.

My hats off to you. You definitely got your hands full

 

The "experts" told my parents that both my brother and I were "slow" because we struggled when we started school. Slow was the term that they used way back in the day before autism. I taught myself to read, and had read the bible from cover to cover before I was old enough to start school. The teaching methods in school didn't make sense to me and so my grades were awful. I'd question the teacher and so my conduct on my report cards was always bad. I was labelled as "slow" by the experts, and as demonic by the church.

One thing I did understand tho, was that my behavior mattered to my parents. That part was crystal clear. That doesn't mean that I never misbehaved. But in public, or with guests in the house, discipline would have been swift and merciless.

Of course, you can't do that nowadays for fear of someone calling the cops on you...hence, so many 'good parents' allow their children to act like hellraisers in public with no recourse. Old school parents wouldn't do that.
