Yep, did some clearing in its day. Like the way it is built. Flip it up and do regular grading.

That's one of the things. The one in your picture has a rear unit (cable winches) in which you can remove the dozer and pull a can which requires two winches. So, the one that you pictured routes the cable from one of the rear winches along the right side of the tractor through a tube with sheaves on both ends, then up to the multiple sheave block above the radiator and down to the dozer.
Some had front winch units that sat at the bottom of the radiator and ran up to the block on top.
Those winch units required proper adjustment and timing. A fella always had a 3/4 wrench and a decent size crescent in the tool box to keep the clutches/brake adjusted correctly.
I believe there were two series of D8s before the 2U, but I don't know the prefix for those. Then after the 2U it went something like 13A, 14A, 15A, 35A, 36A, and then the famous 46A. If memory serves the 35 through 46 A were all Hs. I think a 14A was direct drive and the 15A maybe was the first torque converter model, and the 36A was direct drive as well.
One of the first torque converter models actually used the diesel fuel in the tank for the torque converter fluid; you didn't want to be on one of those on a hot day, but they were nice in the winter!
I may be off on some of the prefix numbers, but you get the jist of it...….probably more info than you really wanted to know. -
What did ya do now ? Park in the wrong spot again? LOL

Well there goes the neighborhood. She picks it up Wednesday...
We're out to dinner with some college friends,
Y'all be good

Project for today. The old wood base rotted out and we got these youngins running around now. I'll build a new 2x6 top in time.

@Oxbow 46A was the prefix I was thinking of. I wonder if the winches on the 2U machines were similiar to the 572, 583 and 594 side booms. I remember some of the older hands talking about diesel in the torque converter Thanks for the class by the way
@ShooterK2 and @superhauler I had a little ol short tongue 2 wheel trailer on. Returned some parts to crow Burlingame come out got in the truck put it in retreat cut the wheels and crunch. Forgot all bout the little thing back there. -
Nice lookin bike for sure. And I am assuming those are some of the short shorts you referred to the other day? I’ve seen belts that size, LOL.
-
Nope, you got it right the first time. My bears are in a generic bag and my cat is on the trailer not under the hood. I’m waiting on my permits to show up in my email, and parked at pilot truck stop so when they get here I can print them.
No way no matter how hard I try I could never!!!!
Lol
