Anything full auto is subject to NFA paperwork, not to mention carrying a price tag well into 5 digits. I’ve seen M-16’s at gun shows for $25,000, but if you have both the money AND the patience, go for it.
You’ll need fingerprints, passport photos, and $200 for the tax stamp. The biggest hurdle is getting CLEO signoff on the form 4, which pretty much comes down to the political leanings of your local sheriff. If he won’t do it, your state police usually will after running a background check on you.
That all gets sent to the ATF, who runs yet another background check, and if all is well you’ll get your tax stamp in the mail in 9-18 months and you can pick up your gun.
As for the Kalashnikov, they’re fun to shoot. Russian and Chinese rifles made my Polytech and Norinconare among the best in the world. If there’s one thing the Chinese DO build well, it’s guns.
It’s not a bad design, but it does suffer from two flaws. One is a short sight radius due to the location of the rear sight. The other is a lack of parts interchangeability between the products of the arsenals of different countries. A bolt out of a Chinese might not fit in a Bulgarian, and so in. This isn’t the case with the familiar direct impingement AR-15 that we all know.
Everybody likes building these hideous free floated AR’s now, usually to put flip up sights on as far apart as possible. Some even choose to go full mall ninja and try and mount everything including the kitchen sink on their handguard. That’s fine if that’s what you’re in to, but I personally prefer mine more like military issue.cke, Tug Toy, singlescrewshaker and 3 others Thank this. -
It’s good to get your monies worth..... -
