As long as you average 8.75 hours per day you can run forever in the US.
Canada realized this and changed things so that we can run 70 in 7 days but need to have a 24 hours off in a row before starting the 14th day. This can be any 24 hours. Midnight to midnight or 8pm to 8pm. I think it works better but when we are US bound we need to be in compliance with the jurisdiction we are in at the moment. I have used Canadian rules to get home 24 hours sooner than following a trip south and I have had to sit on the US side for 24 when only 3 hours from the house.
