Funny thing is in every bit of service literature and training I've taken I've been told that once oil hits 250° F, damage is occuring. Apparently at that temperature the oil film has broken down and is inadequate in preventing metal on metal contact. Happens too long and you start to see metal transfer (smearing) as the metal at the small points of contact become hot enough to momentarily weld together.NightWind, Flint1, PoleCrusher and 10 others Thank this.

I'd hit with a heavy wire wheel on a hand grinder, wearing a good pair of safety glasses and a N95 mask, *gasp* a mask, yes, I do wear one when I truly need to protect my lungs, went too many years and didn't, paying for it now. Then I'd base coat it with 2 coats of primer and two coats of Rustoleum high gloss black.
POR 15 is good, but expensive, and I'm a poor farmer. I've found that black asphalt fence post paint works really well as an undercoating and costs about $10 a gallon. I used that to undercoat our stock trailer, still no rust and no peeling, even after running it through our salt laden roads in the winter here. It's a witch to get it off you if get it on you or your clothes...NightWind, PoleCrusher, rda2580 and 8 others Thank this. -
Freightliner won’t do any sort of replacement despite our #####ing
And I made a big event of it in Arlington one day. Nothing. I guess 270 degree diff temps and hot hot hot hot tires is the new normal. To hell with it.PoleCrusher, cke, shawnhhllc and 6 others Thank this.
