Ok... but that dont make sense... ur allowed 400 pounds on the drives for an apu ... so u cant scale out 34.4 on the drives just because u have a permit ? The apu is still there it didnt disappear

 

Your thinking regular freight. Under a overweight permit that you permited for the weight why would you be exempt. If Im grossing 145000 lbs and my permit is for 145000 I'm not getting an apu exemption if I'm 400 over. I'm getting a ticket, should of permitted for the extra. Different rules than regular freight ! This is based on non divisible loads.

 

I get that u permit for the gross weight... but im talking strictly drive axles...i dont really understand the process of how it all works, so i am just shooting in the dark here...... i will stick to my spot market cheap freight and happily take my apu exemption

Hotshot in your own rig with authority, or leased to good outfit is far from the bottom. Quite a step above what some others are doing..

Don't feel you need to justify yourself to anyone. If that's a venture you'd like to try in the future, hit the ground running & you can go far. Paid for all of my current outfit, and mostly everything I got. It's not a bad way to get a foot in the door, make a name for yourself. Better money in your pocket than the company mans pocket..

 

Got the rails striped to the axles. Got almost 1/2 a bucket of bolts. There were brackets every 14” on both sides to hold wire and hose. Each one was held on with 2 1/2” bolts. Seems excessive to me? Pulled it all off though.
Once my re treads come in I’ll use 4 of my old drive tires on those stack of reject wheels to make it a roller. It also had some sort of electrolysis system on it to fight off rust. I don’t have the whole system but interesting. Clearly not much effort was put into painting the complete frame. Several of the bolts had no paint on the bottom sides. We will fill in all the holes we aren’t going to use and prep and paint it up nice.

 

I would’ve ran it as far as I could with legal permits and stopped until I was legal in the next state/s. Then make sure you and load manager agree your getting layover pay until your good to go. I’ve had to do this in the past.

I’m not doing any outlaw stuff anymore. I have in the past when I knew I wasn’t crossing a scale. I did some shady things when I was a O/O because I had the funds and was going to make bank on the load like others have stated above. Now as a company man. Nah!!! I’m good. I’ll wait. Too much liability on the driver.

 

I gotta get cracking on my truck. Or sell it. Not sure what yet. Really want a square body Chev these days.
