Never liked using the terminology “Emergency” for things that are not.

to add onto what @PoleCrusher mentioned

You can move a trailer as long as you have the emergency / red line attached. It fills the tanks, airs the suspension, and releases the brakes.

your service line is your way to control the trailer brakes. Nothing more.

So to be sure I understand. One tank is in the trailer, emergency, one in the truck, the supply. So if they talk about the trailer it can only be the emergency tank.

    Wrong
All tanks are supply/reservoir tanks to supply air to systems locally, because air pressure in volume takes time to move through lines.
The emergency line is named that because it has 2 jobs, the first is to supply air pressure to the trailer reservoir and the second is to control the spring brakes by supplying pressure to hold them off.
Before spring brakes there was a system where the trailer reservoir would supply air to apply the service brakes when the emergency line was disconnected. This is why the red line is still called the emergency line.
The service line only carries "control" air to control the service brakes with the real work being done from the local reservoir.

thank you. That makes much more sense and clears up the "supplies the trailer" part of it. The book is not very clear about that.
