    After seeing the whole bracket, that would be the way to go. The flat strap on top will give the rest of it good rigidity.
    I was going to suggest filling in the gap between the flat strap and the upright, but after looking at the cracked picture again, I see that won't work.

    Today was moving day. Finally sitting in our new-to-us living room in real chairs for the first time. Still have some odds and ends to do (including the picture stuff), but we're here!!

    Nice little shop. 1 or 2 guy operation. Welding is not his primary buissness obviously. Shop was full of work and well equipped though. Price for repair....... him $10....... me priceless!!! I laughed at his rate and gave him a $100 bill.
