That’s a 9 Speed Top Two. 8 and 9 shift automatically. I can’t remember how exactly, but the up shifts and downshifts can be controlled by the on and off switch for the cruise control.

It’s actually a 10 speed (10 forward gears) but shifted like a 9. You can make it shift when you want it to shift by playing around with the cruise button. You can make it hold 8th, or bypass 8 altogether. It works well as long as some jackwad doesn’t fool with the ecm tune.

 

I'd really like to know, but another driver said the auto function was locked out years ago. Well this sucker spins 1500rpm @ 65 in top gear

 

I seem to recall having to having to turn the cruise on to get it to auto shift. Turning it off bypasses 8 altogether
