They completed paving it in 2007. No shoulders and very few places to pull off. The trees are not cut back as far as 63. Animals like crazy.
I generally preferred 881 over 63 until 63 was twinned.
My 1st solo truck run to mac and back, 63 was closed due to collision and I took 881.
That turned into blizzard/freezing rain gong show.
When I googled the location of the petropass in lac la biche the pin was downtown on the post office. I knew it wasn't there. As I rolled thru town I looked down the street at the post office, and the line up of super b's circling it lol.
A lot of truckers caught off guard.
I learned a lot about trip planning on that crummy 18 hour day.
And I decided I would have to learn the logbook for my 2nd run.

I have only driven a few ISX 15s but i felt the dd15 paired with dt12 was the strongest jake. Scary at how fast it will stop you. I can't say the same for the dd15 with a manual.
Have lots of experience with schlumberger's isx 12 425/1650 pulling frac pumps and i was very impressed with Jake performance. Those 425s would hang right with US-Well Services that had 485 isx 15.singlescrewshaker, farmerjohn64, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
It's certainly nowhere near as strong as a Cummins jake, but it's still useful and saves brake linings big time. Lots of big hills I rarely touch the brake pedal, when my pa taught me to drive he always said to drive like the jake is all you have. Many guys used to run brake savers up here, but you rarely hear of them nowadays. They worked good though, especially for keeping the engine warm when parked with wind chills that were minus retarded.650cat425, singlescrewshaker, Eldiablo and 5 others Thank this.

Depends on the truck stop.
Take TA/Petro for example. Went by the TA in JacksonGA. They had the Buckhorn restaurant for decades. Good place. Now, they have one of those trucked in joints, IHOP. IHOP makes Denny's sound good. The TA near WheelingWV. The manager had one heck of a fancy spread for a buffet. The TA in MorrisIL had some of the best food ever. Even had a real baker employed. The Petros in Minnesota/N Dakota/Wisconsin. The TA on 40 in North Carolina, exit 26...heard the waitress bragging about their steaks. I thought, "Yeah right...someone has a thing for old dog chews." I tried it and YES the steak was fantastic. Who knew that a hole in the wall TA built on the side of a hill could actually put out a good steak?
Years ago, Wendy's used to put out a really good burger. Today, trucked in and heat lamped. Hot and juicy has become room temperature and dry. In fact, in order to get a HOT and juicy burger today (where they cook it to order, not store meat under heat) You have to go to WaffleHouse. Took my burger lovin nephew to the AwfulWaffle and he remarked about how good the burgers are. Of course, they cook your food for you there. Makes a big difference.
When you are old, you will hear the young people complimenting the recycled food they ate. Something about having good texture.
"What is recycled food, Six?"
Probably something that they will come up with out of California after they determine the methane gas from a fart has been known to cause cancer in California residences. Zero nutritional value and zero taste, probably went to the original eater who also got to fart. -
Just lol!!!650cat425, singlescrewshaker, farmerjohn64 and 4 others Thank this.

881 wasn't terrible. As long as I didn't get stuck behind those gravel trucks it was generally a good trip. Seem to recall it added about 45 minutes vs Highway 63 if you were headed to Edmonton or west of there though.650cat425, singlescrewshaker, Flint1 and 4 others Thank this.

google says 8750 for the chain, binders seem to vary but 9K seems common.650cat425, singlescrewshaker, Flint1 and 6 others Thank this.

I seem to remember being told 10k but what I'm finding is the 8750 you found.650cat425, singlescrewshaker, Flint1 and 6 others Thank this.
