The sad thing was I was probably the only one that understood HoS rules. Like I started my day at 6:30 am. In Canada we get a 16 hour shift window, which means it'd be illegal for me to drive after 10:30 pm. More than once I'd get a call from the boss at 8 pm telling me to go 2.5 hours south to fix a generator powering a camp.
"Sorry, can't go. I can be on the road heading south at 2:30 am after my 8 hours off"
"Well you're on call and they're desperate to get the camp powered back up."
"Well I guess you'll need to call up the contract trucking company and have them truck a replacement down. I will not be legal to drive after 10:30."

How many of those 550's have you seen had the frame flex until it broke?jamespmack, 650cat425, cke and 3 others Thank this.

Gotta look at how they drive them too. I treat every vehicle I drive like it were mine. I'd have guys get pissy with me for holding up traffic on a haul road all the time. Sorry but when the ruts from the 797's are 3 feet deep. I'm taking my time. If you're concerned about lost production, wake up the guy napping on the 24M and tell him to do his job lol.jamespmack, 650cat425, cke and 5 others Thank this.

I've seen em all break. Fords it was a challenge keeping them running. Suncor had a policy if the tranny fluid got dark, they just changed the tranny, no point in servicing it.
The old style GMs would snap their frame rails at the front leaf spring shackle.
Dodges were the worst. Cab mounts pushed up thru the floor, box sides would fall off. Chrysler engineers would send transmissions especially built. 7 of 10 dodges were down at all times.
The autoshop tow truck was an f550. By 100 000km it was on its 4th tranny and needed its 2nd engine. They replaced it with a topkick. That went to 300 000km and never had any front end work. It was retired becase the cab started falling apart. Cracked at door corners. This is extreme mine use tho.
The best vehicle they had for bombing around the mine? Suzuki samurai. Never broke, just no heat.
One of the worst? Hummer H1. Constant suspension issues, a brake stand would snap all the axle shafts..

I once read on a site that specializes in Cummins (not Rawze) that the 6.7L engines in the C&C's were substandard compared to the regular pickups. That may well have also been the case with the Powerjokes.jamespmack, 650cat425, cke and 3 others Thank this.
