Hahaha, not laughing at you. Just situation. Ill tell you one on myself.
Snow storm, I punched the clock 34 hours from start to finish. Never closed my eyes. Caffeine and nicotine only. Humping chain and dragging cable. I think I switched trucks 4 or 5 times. Mostly in a heavy. 10 am I punch out. Change onto third set of dry cloths. Owner radios in that he has his 84k 5 axle WesternStar in a 6 foot drift in the middle of the road. Ive seen 3 people killed, piles of equipment wrecked. Dispatch radios two closest heavys to go help him. Like female dogs, they have reasons why they can't help. He is almost 70 and only has a coal shovel on the truck. I dont hit the clock, slip my next pair of boots on. Tossing my tools back in the 30 ton NRC Pete. It was all I had avalible, Im on a mission. Maybe this was why me and him got along well.
Its 3pm. Were at 39ish hours. All clear, in the pickup going home. Have 2 shifts off. You think I went home? Was driving past a bar. 3 miles from home in the country, I got liquid. Drove home. Mowed down 2 road signs with a brand new pickup. Cost me a hood and windshild. Sign was eye level and didn't come all the way thru. Lucky yes. Expensive yes. Worth it, NOPE. We learn from mistakes right? I think.
I thought I was invisible at that age. Kinda was. Now I see how dumb I actually was.650cat425, Tug Toy, PoleCrusher and 9 others Thank this. -
my attitude has evolved to:
chains off-road is ok and approved in many conditions
chains on-road is ok to get me to a safe location
they are not to be used to deliver a load and put MY equipment and life at the mercy of the numbskulls that think they can drive better than a professional driver with 45 years safe driving experience.650cat425, PoleCrusher, cke and 8 others Thank this. -
If ya got a minute my family could sure use a prayer for a peaceful and pain-free crossing for our seven year old great nephew as he make his journey....
Could be hours or days but one thing I'm sure of my mother-in-law..... His great grandma Linda is gonna be standing at the gate with open arms.....she never got the chance to hold him.
I really don't want any responses but if ya got a minute I'd really appreciate it......dwells40, 650cat425, BoostedTeg and 18 others Thank this. -

Huh....?
My 1st truck was a 1973 Cabover Kenworth. 335 Cummins with a 9 spd trans. 10:00-20 bias ply on truck and trailer in Dayton wheels. No power steering, no A/C, and no Jake brakes, but I was proud as a peacock.
You ain’t lived till ya make a potted meat or peanut butter & jelly sandwich on the doghouse at the pickle park and keep right on Steer’n & Gear’n on down the asphalt trail.....
There was a time when a quarter in your pocket was a necessity, not just change. A truckers atlas and a CB were tools of the trade. Fortunately I had the opportunity to live those days before they faded away..... -
Thoughts and prayers for the little guy.....

Seen this today in NY. Class of 79 with a 96 or 97 12.7 Detroit.
When my daughter was born in 88, I was driving a Shaker like this with a later model hood......

My prayers to you and your family sir .
